Who We Are
The International Society of Groundwater for Sustainable Development (ISGSD) is a global scientific society advancing groundwater science, safe water, public health, and sustainable development. The Society’s stated focus is not only on groundwater as a physical resource, but on groundwater as a human-development issue: safe drinking water, protection of aquifers, resilience under climate and development pressures, and the reduction of health risks associated with groundwater contamination. ISGSD presents itself as a science–policy–practice network.
Its current public positioning emphasizes three themes:
(1) groundwater sustainability, including responsible groundwater use and aquifer protection;
(2) health and geogenic risk, including arsenic, fluoride, salinity, manganese, and other naturally occurring groundwater-quality challenges; and
(3) digital water intelligence, linking hydrogeochemical data, field tools, dashboards, AI-enabled analytics, and governance pathways for scalable groundwater decision support.
